ASAHCA Fund Raising Gala for Angels of Africa Campaign 2013
The Miss Teen Africa Team had the distinguished pleasure of being guests of the Association of Spouses of African High Commisioners and Ambassadors in the UK yesterday at a Gala Dinner and Auction at the Lancaster London Hotel.
The event was well attended by dignitaries from Africa and the UK, business owners and Africans in diapora and supported by Air Mauritus, AIT, Sechelles Airlines , Astellas Pharmaceuticals, GT Bank, Union Bank, International Strategic Alliance Corporation, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and others.
Kicking off with singing of the British and African Union anthem, a keynote speech was delivered by the president of ASAHCA , Hajia Salamatu Tafida (wife of the High Commissioner of Nigeria); attendees were given a robust overview of the Angels for Africa Campaign and summaries of past projects under the auspices of the campaign.
A presentation was delivered by Dr Isaac Odeyemi of Astelia Pharmaceuticals and entertainment delivered by esteemed saxophonist Wale the Great.
Awards were given to members of the community who had delivered recognisable work and shown dedication to supporting Angels of Africa.
Ethiopian Dance Group Dan-Kira and Mauritian Sega Troupe Milo Zul Katingo and Dancers enchanted the crowd with superb dance performances.
Light entertainment came into play with a fundraising raffle and giveaway and a number of items went under the hammer.
Albeit late in the day, a Custom made Louis Vuitton bag owned and donated by Naomi Campbell came under the hammer but did not meet its reserve, those who were unable to attend should watch out for a digital auction in the near future to grab this unique item.
We were seated with Her Excellency The UK Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea , beautiful Maria Cruz Evuna and Tobias Masterton of Homestrings Ltd. HE M Evuna shared with us the importance of advocacy and enlightenment, education and social enterprise for Africans in diaspora and the importance of social and cultural identity alongside the importance of supporting Africa whilst Mr Masterton gave us a robust overview about the revolutionary means of crowsourcing funding and enterprise to make a differeence in Africa through their innovative scheme helping Africans in diaspora facilitate the investment in Africa process by creating credible and trustworthy investment tools that to direct hard earned resources effectively – all the while making a reasonable return.
