Yashi Uppalapati is a freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder Leeds School of Business. She is a part of the Diverse Scholars Program, Multicultural Business Student Association, and South Asian Student Association. She plans on double majoring in Accounting and Finance and getting a double minor in Hindi and Technology Arts and Media.
Thanks to her acceptance into an accelerated program, Yashi hopes to graduate with her undergraduate degrees and master’s degree in Finance in under five years. Her goal is to one day have a career as a successful accountant working at Ernst and Young. In high school, she was involved with Future Business Leaders of America, DECA, French Club, French Honor Society, Link Crew, and International Cultural Club.
She was also an honor roll student with a passion for fashion. She started modeling at 15 and was signed to Wilhelmina Denver. Yashi is also involved with Denver Fashion Week and other shows. Along with school and modeling, she worked part-time to start earning her own money. All these things are possible due to her high ambitions and values.
Her top value is self-respect; respect for herself and respect for those around her. As an immigrant to the US, these values have been preserved throughout her life. In her free time, Yashi likes to cross new restaurants from her “food bucket list,” do yoga, volunteer at the children’s hospital, and help those in need. She also is a TV show addict and loves to binge-watch.
I speak four languages: Telugu, my mother’s native tongue, Hindi, which I use to communicate with my friends in India and America, and French, which I began learning in high school.
Before immigrating to the United States at 12, I attended a music school in India for a year while awaiting my visa.
I have walked in Denver Fashion Week for two seasons, Denver Fashion Week is one of the biggest emerging fashion weeks in the US currently.
